Attendance and absences

Good attendance helps you to stay on track with your studies and demonstrate your commitment to employers.

If you are struggling to attend college, we are here for you. Find out how we can help you, and how to report an absence.

Your future matters

Regularly attending college gives you the best chance of keeping up with your course, understanding the work and getting the support you need from your tutors.

Attendance also helps you to demonstrate your commitment to future employers.

In fact, research shows that students with high attendance generally achieve better qualifications and better earnings in their career.

Struggling to attend college? We can help

Feeling anxious, or facing problems with money, travel, relationships, college or health? Life can be tough at times but you are not alone.

If you are struggling to attend college, here are some of the ways we can help you:

Mentoring and mental health support

If you need any help, you can opt for one-to-one mentoring. Mentors help you to access the support you need to thrive at college. You can also access free online mental health resources and speak to qualified counsellors 24/7.

Additional Learning support (SEND)

We provide specialist support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We’ll work with you to identify and access the support you need to succeed.

Safeguarding support

If you feel uncomfortable or at risk in any way - at college or in your personal life - our safeguarding team is here for you. Talk to us confidentially if you have any concerns.

Financial support

Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to offer you financial support for: travel to college; food and drinks at college; course fees, equipment, printing and trips; childcare costs, and more.

Please talk to our Learner Services team or email safeguarding@tscg.ac.uk for help

Reporting an absence

Sometimes missing college can’t be helped. If there is a genuine reason for you missing college – such as illness or a family emergency – please report it before 8:30am on the first day of absence.

Scan the QR code on the back of your Student ID badge or visit https://proconnect.tcg.ac.uk/StudentAbsence to report the absence.

Catching up after an absence

Once you feel better, please contact your tutor to catch up on any missed work.

Your future is waiting — let’s make every day count!
