Course Overview

Are you looking to change your career or are interesting in becoming a Teaching Assistant? If the answer is yes, then this qualification will provide an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools.

During your placement you will be required to demonstrate skills in communication, the health and safety and well-being of children and young people and assist them and other adults in providing stimulating learning activities. You will be observed by your assessor at regular intervals through the duration of the course.

This course is also suitable for newly appointed teaching assistants.

Course Requirements

All prospective learners will undertake an informal interview and complete a skills scan & initial assessment. As learners need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, they will need to be working or be on a voluntary placement during the taught programme of study in a learning environment, such as a school or college setting.

What you will Learn

The qualification will enable you to gain knowledge about what is required when working with children and young people. It will enable you to build on skills such as communication, school procedures and gain the confidence to progress into working within the sector or continue your studies onto the Level 3.

Assessment

You will complete a competence-based assessment and produce a portfolio, that include assignments and practical assessments. All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. Skills based outcomes must be achieved, with reference to a real work environment and must include direct observation within the workplace.
