Course Overview

The Steps to Employability course is designed for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who are working at Entry 3. The course is ideal for learners who prefer practical, hands-on learning and want to build confidence, independence and readiness for adult life and work.

Students benefit from a personalised and supportive learning environment, with a strong focus on developing independence, communication and employability skills.

Course Requirements

This course is designed for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who are working at Entry 2 (E2)

What you will Learn

Students will complete a range of engaging and meaningful units that support everyday life and future employment or supported work, including:
– All About Me and Communication
– Community and Independence
– Employability Skills
– Enterprise and Work Experience

Students are supported through small class sizes, experienced SEND staff, learning facilitators and bespoke resources, all delivered within a structured, safe and nurturing environment.

Alongside this, students will also study functional English and maths, tailored to each learner’s individual level and needs.

Assessment

Progress is assessed in a flexible and supportive way, including:
Teacher observation
Photographs and video
Portfolio of evidence
Personal progress against individual targets
Feedback from teachers, learning facilitators, parents/carers

Progression

Pre-Supported Internship or Supported Internship
Work experience or supported employment
Independent living programmes or community-based learning
Choices Steps to Vocational Skills (L1)

Career Options

After completing Steps to Employability, students can progress into a range of supported and entry-level opportunities based on their interests, abilities and individual support needs.

Mandatory Units

Students are expected to complete a core set of skill areas to achieve the qualification, the programme structure is flexible and personalised which is helpful for SEND learners.

Core Units include:
– Communication
– Independence
– Workplace skills
– Enterprise projects

With additional units based on student needs and interests.
