Course Overview

The RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Plant Growth and Development, provides learners with a solid theoretical grounding. This offers an understanding behind the science of plants, such as how they function, nutrition, health, adaptations and various planting styles.

Students will also develop an understanding of the horticultural industry and the vital role plants play in enhancing biodiversity.

What you will Learn

Students will gain an understanding of current horticultural practices including best practice, an understanding of health and safety consideration as well as how sustainable principles can be applied in practice.

Assessment

This qualification will be entirely assessed by a summative, unseen written examination for each unit. Therefore examination 1 will cover Unit 1 (topics 1.1-1.4) and examination 2 will cover Unit 2 (topics 2.1-2.4). In each examination, all assessment outcomes specified in the unit will be covered. Examinations must be taken with a provider approved by RHS Qualifications, or under arrangements for exceptional supervision agreed by RHS Qualifications

Progression

Completion of this qualification (both elements) will give learners the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to boost career prospects. Achieving Level 2 allows learners the opportunity to progress to further learning opportunities at Level 3, allowing progression to higher education, career advancement or entry in the horticultural industries at a more advanced, technical and management level.

Career Options

This qualification will give you the opportunity to apply for jobs at the RHS or other gardens or in other areas of the horticulture industry.
