Course Overview

You will look at the interactions between people and their environments. You will question and understand why, and how, the world is changing through these interactions. With a range of topics studied the emphasis is not just on reading and writing, but we encourage students to take part in debates, discussions, activity study and anything that gets us out of our seats and thinking. The course is very contemporary. The topics you study bring the real world into the classroom.

Course Requirements

The traditional A Level pathway for those who may be thinking of University, Higher Apprenticeship or Degree Apprenticeship. 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above, covering a wide range of subject areas. These must include English Language and Maths.

What you will Learn

The course includes 4 compulsory days of fieldwork. Two days are spent studying glaciation and tourism in North Wales or The Lake District. One day looks at Contrasting Places in Greater Manchester and a final day looks at Sustainable Living. There is also potential for Overseas trips with sufficient numbers with trips to Europe possible.

Assessment

You will be assessed by examination (80%).Paper 1 covers Physical GeographyPaper 2 covers Human GeographyPaper 3 is a Synoptic PaperYou complete an individual coursework project (20%) on any topic from the specification of your choice. The coursework involves the collection, analysis and interpretation of data.
