Learn from industry leaders or volunteer in something you love. No matter the course you’ve decided to study at The Cheadle College, you will be supported in gaining work experience to help you develop essential employability skills, such as networking, communication, organisation and creative problem solving. We can also support you with sourcing part-time work so you can build your CV alongside your studies.
Students on 16-18 study programmes (including potential students) will have access to careers information, advice, guidance and meaningful encounters with employers including access to work experience placements.
To support individuals on their journey to a successful career all students studying with us here at The Cheadle College are enlisted onto our Careers Programme, as an integral part of their study programme. We even provide impartial careers guidance and support before you choose to enrol with us.
We provide students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to make positive career choices. The Careers Programme is tailored to the needs of individual students and provides a range of activities prior to enrolment, on programme and also as part of a student’s progression at the end of their course.
Work experience is a key component of 16 to 19 study programmes and academic courses. It aims to give young people the opportunity to develop their career choices and develop those critical employability skills needed for employment. All students are expected to undertake work experience / personal and professional development as part of their study programme. This applies to academic, technical, and applied pathways.
Work experience can take many forms, including work tasters, running a student enterprise, participation in social action, volunteering or placements. Activities must be planned to take account of the learner’s needs and future plans. Part-time jobs that are relative to the course can also be logged as a placement.
Every T Level will include an industry placement (extended work experience placement) with an employer focused on developing the practical and technical skills required for the occupation. These will last a minimum of 315 hours over 45/60 days but can last longer.
TCG will support employers offering industry placements. This will include assistance with identifying placement, necessary paperwork, a careful planning process and support with designing the industry placement.
TCG is committed to developing the employability skills and opportunities of gaining employment for all learners. Placements and work-related activities are vital components in the process of developing the skills, qualifications and experience necessary in the workplace and meeting employer skills needs.
Every course will also have a programme of guest speakers from industry who will visit your classes to share with you their professional experiences and what is important in making yourself a success.
We offer volunteering opportunities for you to gain new experiences, develop team work and communication skills, support your community, and build your CV. We also support an annual charity which is chosen by staff and students at the college where you can be involved in fundraising activities and build your skills.
