2024 TSCG Apprentice & Employer Awards

by TSCG

The 2024 Trafford & Stockport College Group’s Apprentice & Employer Awards were held at the beginning of May and aimed at celebrating the outstanding achievements and contributions of apprentices and employers alike. Hosted and catered by our own hospitality students and at our very own Aspire Restaurant.

At Trafford & Stockport College Group we believe a talented workforce is the key to success. That’s why the night was hosted by our incredible hospitality team with canapes served throughout the night prepared by our wonderful catering students.

Priding ourselves on giving our students the best possible opportunities we thought tonight was the perfect time to introduce our brand new, state of the art immersive learning Innovation Suite and Clinical Suite.

The event showcased the remarkable talents and dedication within the TSCG apprenticeship community.

Here are the award categories for 2024:

Welcome Speech from Trafford & Stockport College Group Principal, James Scott

“Thanks to Aspire for hosting and the wonderful menu.
Particular thanks to our sponsors – Essity and Mindful Education.
The evening is a celebration of the great achievements of our apprentices and a celebration and thank you to the commitment of employers who highly value the apprenticeship programme.
It’s also an opportunity for us to acknowledge the role, the great support and thank our colleagues here at the college who have been with you every step of the way on your apprenticeship journeys.
Here at the college we believe that there is more to apprenticeships than just qualifications – and that it’s about ensuring apprentices can excel in what they do and make a real difference to their organisation. We believe in Skills Excellence, not Skills Competence; and that is why for example we embrace WorldSkills UK more than any other college – with two of our apprentices as medallists in last year’s national finals – and our Silver Medallist, Eddie, here tonight to present the guest of honour speech.
Apprenticeships go from strength to strength. Whether it’s providing that first opportunity to start a new career, or whether it’s enabling people to be even better in their current role and progress to new ones; they continue to be a great success story for our college, our region and indeed our country.
And in fact there is arguably no better programme than apprenticeships in helping us ensure that businesses and the economy get the skills needed to thrive.
Just last week, I saw some hugely encouraging statistics about the recognition of apprenticeships in a new report by the highly regarded Edge Foundation.
In polling, nearly 70% of people said that the purpose of education should be about providing skills for workplace and career success.
72% of parents said they would want their child to undertake an apprenticeship (compared to 79% A levels – a gap but one that has massively narrowed on this evidence).
So the Apprenticeship success story continues. And I’m delighted you are here to share it with us tonight.
Have a wonderful evening, and let’s find out who this year’s winners are.
Thank you “

Apprentice Awards

Hosted by Danielle Judge, Assistant Principal of Apprenticeships
“This year’s awards were extra bit special as not only did our assessors and tutors nominate apprentices but so did their employers. As one of the judge’s I had the difficult task of shortlisting the winners and the calibre this year was extraordinary! These awards are a testament to the hard work and determination of our apprentices, who should be very proud of their achievements, balancing full time work, with study and finding time to also have a personal life! Well done to all our winners and nominees!”

Employer Awards

Hosted by Tracey Wood, Assistant Principal for Adult Skills and Employer Engagement
“It is one of my favourite events of the year, a chance for us to come together celebrating the incredible achievements of our apprentices and students and the invaluable contributions of our partner employers. The evening filled with excitement, inspiration, and pride as we honoured the outstanding individuals and organisations shaping the future of workforce development in Stockport, Trafford, and beyond!  From innovative apprenticeship programs and transformational work placements leading to remarkable career advancements, each award recipient showcased the remarkable talent, dedication, and passion that define our community. “

The 2024 awards ceremony was a testament to the resilience, creativity, and hard work demonstrated by apprentices and their employers. Congratulations to all the winners and nominees for their dedication to the growth and success of the apprenticeship community.
